The Janata Dal (United) has gone into damage control. Nitish Kumar’s party had announced the withdrawal of support from the BJP government in Manipur on the morning of the previous day. However, as soon as the discussion started at the national level, they said that N Biren Singh’s demand to withdraw support from the government was ‘baseless’.
Yesterday, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla was informed about the withdrawal of support from the BJP government by JDU’s state unit president Kshetrimayum Biren Singh. Later, JDU’s national spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad called the letter misleading. He claimed that Kshetrimayum had given the letter to the Governor without consulting the central leadership.
He has already been suspended from his post for ‘breach of discipline’. Rajiv Ranjan Prasad also said that their alliance with the BJP is unbreakable at both the state and national levels. There is no rift. Rajiv said, “We have supported the NDA in Manipur and our support will continue in the future.”
